Bachus attended Aquinas College, then known as Aquinas Junior College, on a basketball scholarship and graduated with honors in 1980. 

Bachus spent his entire professional career at Vanderbilt University, offering over 33 years of service to one of the leading research and educational institutions in the nation. His commitment to education complements his dedication to his Catholic faith.
