Civil Rights Leader Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient 17 term United States Congressman 
Nominating Institution: American Baptist College Congressman John Lewis embodied the values and mission of American Baptist College, a historically black college, with a liberal arts emphasis: to educate, graduate, and prepare diverse students for Christian leadership, service, and social justice in the world. Lewis dedicated his life to these values and, in turn, made our world a better place. “John Lewis came to American Baptist College at just 17- years-old. He credited his education at American Baptist College for helping to mold him into the passionate leader he became,” said Forrest E. Harris, Sr., President of American Baptist College. “There is no better time to honor Lewis’ life and legacy and we are grateful TICUA is recognizing his indelible contributions to our country.”
