Sewanee Professor Working Overtime
to Help with COVID-19 Testing Backlog
Our TICUA member institutions have been at the forefront of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. A Sewanee University of the South Assistant Professor of Biology, Clint Smith, has been going above and beyond to help conduct coronavirus testing.
Smith spends his weekdays teaching his courses online and caring for his toddler, but he doesn't stop there. Each Saturday and Sunday he wakes up at 3:30 am to drive to Chattanooga where he works all day in an innovative lab testing nasal swabs for COVID-19.
With the help of Smith, the lab is able to run 60 to 70 tests per day and get same-day results. You can read more about Professor Smith, his research and journey to The University of the South here.
