Baptist College of Health Sciences

Helping to Fight the COVID-19 Pandemic

TICUA member institutions are playing many different roles in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud of the impact each institution is making on our Tennessee communities and beyond. In Memphis, two Baptist College of Health Sciences faculty members are working to keep many hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes safe.

Dr. Lilian Ogari, Associate Professor and Chair of Biomedical Sciences at Baptist College of Health Sciences, developed and manages the contact tracing process for employees and patients within Baptist Memorial Health Care. In addition to her leadership and teaching roles, Dr. Ogari developed the teaching modules and oversaw the training for medical students, doctoral nursing students and employee health nurses to do the contact tracing.

Dr. Michelle McDonald, Associate Professor and Chair of Population Health at Baptist College of Health Sciences, is a member of the Baptist Memorial Health Care COVID-19 Response Team working with prediction models to guide hospital administrators regarding potential PPE and inpatient needs.  Her work includes tracking hospitalization data for trend analysis to improve planning for resource availability.
