Thanks To All the TICUA Member Institutions

Helping in the Fight Against COVID-19

A huge thank you to all of the TICUA member institutions who have been at the forefront of helping their communities battle the COVID-19 pandemic. From 3D printing masks for front-line medical workers, providing free testing for the public and free housing for healthcare providers and researching treatments for the virus, we are so proud of all the contributions made by faculty, staff and students.
Executive Leadership Institute

The TICUA Leadership Initiatives have been an overwhelming success and we are eagerly looking forward to 2020-21! We are currently seeking members of your senior staff to be 2020-21 Pressnell Fellows in the TICUA Executive Leadership Program (ELI). Each TICUA member president is invited to select one senior campus official to participate as a Pressnell Fellow in the 2020-21 Institute. Member presidents who have not already completed their selection are encouraged to do so by Monday, May 4th.Here is a link to the selection form.

The Institute serves as a leadership development program for senior campus leaders. The Institute not only strives to provide the leadership knowledge and skills necessary to prepare senior campus officials for a presidency, but more importantly, is designed to strengthen the local campus’ leadership team.

The Institute will hold monthly sessions at select TICUA member institutions with the president of the host institution serving as Residential Dean during the two-day visit. Monthly sessions will begin in September 2020 with graduation occurring in May 2021.

Session topics include:

  • Orientation
  • Governance, Board Relations & Politics
  • Strategic Planning & Building a Leadership Team
  • Enrollment Management & Student Success
  • Advancement & Public Relations/Communications
  • Academics & Faculty Relations
  • TICUA Annual Meeting
  • Financial Management
  • Student Affairs/Student Life
  • Transitioning to the Presidency
  • Graduation

Due to the generosity of donors and the investment of reserves from the TICUA Board of Directors, the 2020-21 ELI Fellows only will need to cover hotel and other travel expenses to and from the ELI sites. All other direct costs will be covered by the TICUA ELI. If you would like to learn more about ELI please contact either Dr. Claude Pressnell ( or Dr. Diane Berty (

Advancing Leaders Summit Canceled

TICUA typically offers the Advancing Leaders Summit, designed for aspiring campus officials seeking to advance to a more senior role within their institution, each year in July. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the model demonstrated by many TICUA member institutions, we too are canceling the 2020 Advancing Leaders Summit.

TICUA Multiple Employer Plan

The TICUA Multiple Employer Plan (TICUA MEP) Governing Committee is pleased to announce that all but one of the originating members have gone “live” effective, May 2020. The Committee anticipates the final originating member to be live by summer’s end. This successful launch is the culmination of 18 months of work on the part of TICUA, the MEP participating member institutions: Christian Brothers University, Cumberland University, Johnson University, King University, and Milligan College, as well as its vendor partners: Millennium Advisory Services, Pentegra, SageView Advisory Group, and TIAA.

The TICUA MEP offers a retirement plan program that allows member institutions to offer a competitive retirement plan that benefits both the institution and its employees by centralizing administrative and fiduciary support for plan sponsors. Members enjoy individualized plan design flexibility, cost efficiencies due to pooled resources, and reduced fiduciary exposure.

The TICUA MEP Governing Committee invites your institution to join! If you would like to learn more about joining the TICUA MEP please contact Diane Berty, VP, TICUA ( 615-242-6400).

TICUA President Spotlight

Each month, TICUA will be highlighting leaders at our member institutions. This month we would like to spotlight Jack Shannon, the President of Christian Brothers University. Shannon has a diverse skill set and immense experience in higher education leadership roles. Prior to coming to CBU, Shannon served as Vice President for Advancement at Montclair State University and led the Office of Strategic Alliances, Economic Development and Civic Partnerships. Additionally, he served at the University of Pennsylvania as associate vice president for economic development and chief of staff to the executive vice president.

Ways to Save

The Coalition, in support of TICUA and its member institutions, is committed to leveraging the collective buying power of private colleges and universities to reduce operating costs, improve the efficiency of internal procedures, and ultimately lower the cost of delivering education. As such, The Coalition continues to focus on ways that their program partners can help your institution clear the hurdles directly in front of them and those that may occur further down the road. To learn more about opportunities program partners are offering visit theCoalition’s COVID-19 web page.

Congratulations 2020 Graduates!

Congratulations to all of the 2020 TICUA member institution graduates! We are proud of the hard work and dedication you've put into your education and future. Thank you to the faculty and staff who have played such a big role in these students lives. We know this year is not what we had all hoped it to be and may be postponing or cancelling your celebrations, but know that we are proud of you all and wish you the best!
